NeatOS: A Secure and Reliable Meeting Platform

The Neat OS running on Neat devices is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Neat OS is a hardened and secure operating system specifically designed to support multiple audio and video meeting collaboration applications to ensure a reliable and consistent meeting experience.

To safeguard user privacy and system integrity, Neat OS employs a multi-layered security approach. This includes hardware-backed secure boot and verified boot for a tamper-proof startup, user data encryption to protect sensitive information, anti-rollback protection to prevent downgrades to vulnerable software, and a hardware-backed keystore for secure storage of cryptographic keys. Furthermore, SELinux, a robust MAC system, adds another layer of security by defining detailed access rules, effectively sandboxing processes, and limiting what system resources they can access.

The development of Neat OS is a result of close collaboration between highly skilled hardware and software engineers in the Neat R&D organization. This ensures the best possible combination of compatibility, functionality, reliability, and security for our embedded system appliances in any environment.

Android Versions

Neat OS has been continuously upgraded from Android 8.1 to Android 10 (Neat OS for Neat Center is based on Android 13). Demonstrating our commitment to continuous improvement, the Neat R&D team is actively working on upgrading Neat OS to Android 131.
Neat OS based on Android 13 can be expected as part of a regular software release. Moving to newer Android versions is utilizing advancements in the underlying Linux kernel which future-proofs the device and makes it capable of receiving security updates for a longer period. It also helps in keeping devices in use longer as part of our contribution to a sustainable future.

Neat is committed to further upgrading our Neat OS to future Android versions, and the current product line can be expected to be further developed beyond Android 131.

1 NeatOS for Generation 1 Platform devices (Neat Bar, Neat Board) will remain on Android 10.
