1. Introduction

This document describes the new features, improvements, bug fixes and known issues in the 24.1.0 software release for Neat Bar, Neat Bar Pro, Neat Pad, Neat Board, and Neat Frame.

As long as your Neat equipment was up and on the network after 2:00pm Central European Time (8:00am Eastern US / 5:00am Pacific US) on Saturday, February 10th, the update would have been downloaded into the Stable update channel on your device.

If you had opted out of automatic upgrades by disabling ‘Automatic updates’ on your Neat device, please note that it will remain on the existing software release and will not upgrade. However, if you would like to upgrade to the 24.1.0 release, please enable ‘Automatic updates’ and the Neat device(s) will download the latest firmware release and upgrade the Stable channel as above. Automatic updates can be enabled or disabled by going into your Neat’s System settings (from a Neat Pad, Neat Board, or Neat Frame) -> System -> Software Update.

The features introduced in this release are:

  • New NeatOS version numbering convention
  • Reduced stretching around camera edges when framing individuals
  • Improved Direct Guest Join experience with Chromium M118 support
  • Default camera framing option for Microsoft Teams
  • Other improvements

2.1 New NeatOS version numbering convention

With this release, Neat will be using a new version numbering system to make our software releases easier to refer to and keep track of. For instance, with release 24.1.0, 24 refers to the year 2024, .1 refers to the first release of 2024, and the .0 refers to any sub-releases that may come under that version.

Please note, the software build number that you will see in the device itself (in the system settings or Pulse dashboard) will still follow our previous numbering convention, specific to the device it refers to. For example, the build number for Neat Pad in this release will be NFA1.20240120.0109.

2.2 Reduced stretching around camera edges when framing individuals

In this release, we are introducing some exciting new technology that enhances the image quality of individuals being framed by Neat Symmetry. In the past, meeting participants that were close to the edge of the image were shown with some stretching effect. This has been corrected, so everyone appears the same, regardless of where in the camera field of view they are positioned.

2.3 Updated Chromium support

Neat now supports Chromium 118, allowing us to continue to develop Direct Guest Join functionality in partnership with Zoom and Microsoft.

2.4 Default camera framing option for Microsoft Teams Rooms Devices

In this release, we have implemented a way for Microsoft Teams users to select a default camera framing option on their Neat Bar/Neat Board devices. In previous releases, the camera during Microsoft Teams meetings would default to whatever framing was used at the end of the last call. Now when users select a default camera control using Microsoft Teams admin settings (Settings -> Device settings -> Teams -> Teams admin -> Devices -> Room Camera), that camera setting will be applied at the start of each new call.

2.5 Other improvements

This release contains other minor bug fixes and improvements to Neat devices.

3. Fixed bugs and improvements

Issue referenceDescription
CUS-727In previous releases, it was possible for user to hear a static noise while sharing audio content over HDMI on a Neat Bar Pro. This issue has been resolved in this relase
CUS-811In previous releases it was possible for a Neat Bar or Neat Board to become unresponsive on the BYOD mode screen after a USB-C connection is removed. This issue has been resolved in this release.
CUS-889In previous releases it was possible for Neat firmware upgrades to fail due to insufficient disk space. This issue has been resolved in this release.
CUS-916In previous releases it was possible for the admin password for Neat’s remote access feature to show up in decrypted log files as a plain text string. This issue has been resolved in this release.

4. Known issues

Issue referenceDescription
INBUGS-31‘Unable to verify certificate’ message is displayed when uploading CA certificate which has a text part before the actual certificate part. To work around this issue, copy only the certificate portion (BEGIN CERTIFICATE / END CERTIFICATE) to a file and save it as .pem/.cert etc.
ZOOM-93In this release, Zoom’s noise suppression algorithm is enabled by default, which can cause poor experience when using Music Mode on Neat devices. We recommend turning off Zoom noise suppression (on the touch controller or via ZDM) as long as Neat Music Mode is turned ‘on’ for Bar Pro, Board 50 and Frame.
CUS-326In this release, color correction configuration options are available in the accessibility settings on the Neat Board and Neat Bar Pro, but enabling the feature will not have any effect on the screen.
CUS-635In this release, if a Neat Bar is rebooted while BYOD mode is enabled and in use, the Neat camera and Microphone will no longer function as expected until the USB-C cable is unplugged and replugged from the device.
CUS-651In this release, it is possible for a Neat Bar and Neat Pad to lose the ability to pair over Wifi.
CUS-668In this release, it is possible for digital signage in Zoom to be displayed incorrectly on a display connected to the HDMI2 port on a Neat Bar Pro.
CUS-760In this release, it is possible for a Neat device to show an “untrusted server certificate” warning due to a network timing issue. Rebooting the device should resolve the error in these scenarios.
CUS-825In this release, rebooting a Neat device will cause Wi-Fi to become enabled even when it had been previously disabled.
CUS-896In this release, it is possible for a display connected to the HDMI1 port of a Neat Bar Pro to not wake up as expected when “Auto Wake Up” and “HDMI CEC” are enabled.
CUS-955In this release, it is possible for a Neat device to initiate content sharing when no HDMI source is connected to the device. In this scenario the “content” will appear as a black screen with a green Bar running horizontally along the bottom.
INBUGS-1663In this release, not all external audio hardware is synchronized with the mute indicator and volume slider in Zoom or Microsoft Teams while using Audio over USB on a Neat Bar Pro.
INBUGS-1664In this release, switching between external audio hardware and the internal speaker while using Audio over USB on a Neat Bar Pro does not always work during a Zoom meeting.
INBUGS-2114In this release, it is possible for a Neat Pad to emit a notification “chime” noise while launching applications
INBUGS-2242Zoom has added a room noise reduction feature in ZR 5.17.5 that is enabled by default. In some situations, this feature could possibly cause voice dropouts in the call audio, especially when combined with Neat’s Voice Isolation functionality. If these voice dropouts are noticed, it is recommended to disable the Zoom noise reduction feature in the Zoom settings.
CA-573In this release, certain network configurations and environmental conditions can cause a network timing issue on the Neat Pad after updating to a future version. This can result in the device getting stuck in on a firmware upgrade screen with a download bar that shows zero progress.
