Neat Open: Browser Pairing and Controls

Last updated September 30, 2026

Overview

In Neat Open mode, any user can pair their own browser to the Neat device to control the room and start AI Notes. There is no need for a Neat Pad: control stays with whoever is paired, rather than whoever is holding the USB cable. This article explains how to pair a browser and what pairing lets you do.

For a wider overview of Neat Open, see Neat Open: Overview. For more on the notes feature itself, see Using AI Notes in Neat Open.

Requirements

The following conditions must be met to successfully Pair a laptop or phone browser to a Neat Device:

  • A supported Neat device configured for Neat Open and running NeatOS 26.5 or later. For the Near Open experiences supported per device, see Neat Open: Overview.
  • The device is enrolled in Neat Pulse.
  • Network access that meets Neat’s standard network and firewall requirements. Specifically, go.neat.no.
  • A laptop or mobile phone with a web browser to pair with the device and control the session.

How to pair a browser

1. Pair a controller to the Neat device

In Neat Open mode, the front-of-room device displays a pairing code and a QR code on screen. Pair using either method below.

Using the pairing code:

  1. On a laptop or mobile browser, go to go.neat.no.
  2. Enter a name and the pairing code shown on the Neat device display.

Using the QR code:

  1. Scan the QR code at the bottom of the Neat device screen with your mobile phone.
  2. Enter a name when prompted.

Important: The pairing code refreshes every few minutes. If the code has changed, use the one currently shown on the device display.

Use the controller

Once your controller (laptop or mobile) is paired, you can control the device from your browser. AI Notes begins capturing at this point automatically (if enabled), and a blue icon appears in the top right-hand corner of the Neat device screen to show that notes are active.

This icon will also show how many devices have paired to the Front of Room device in the Top right corner.

Controls Available

Once paired, your phone or laptop browser controls the front-of-room device. What you can do depends on the device and the session type.

  • Control (BYOD) — When the device is in BYOD mode connected to a laptop or phone, you can adjust camera framing, microphone mute, and speaker volume for the call.

Note: Camera controls are greyed out unless the Neat device’s camera is active. Similarly, microphone mute applies only when the Neat device’s microphone is used in BYOD mode.

  • Share (Neat Open with Apps) — Use wireless sharing, controlled from your laptop. Screen sharing is not available from a mobile phone.

  • AI Notes (BYOD and Neat Open Apps) — AI meeting notes are captured across both BYOD and Neat Open Apps sessions. AI Notes begin automatically when you pair, and the blue indicator on the device screen shows when they are active. To pause AI Notes, press the AI Notes icon (the waveform symbol) in the middle. For more information on AI Notes, please see Using AI Meeting Notes with Neat Open.
  • End pairing (BYOD and Neat Open Apps) — To end the session and view any AI Notes summaries, select the red cross.

Note: Browser pairing and control are not available in Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet dedicated modes. Those platforms are controlled through their own interface.
